Today was my first day joining the team and I was welcomed by everyone as they were preparing to analyse the data gathered from interviews with Sneinton organisations such as the Salvation Army and Growing Spaces. Once the interviews were recalled we worked on finding common themes that would need to be applied to the project that would allow us to construct the brief. We found that the local organisations desired a structure what would be versatile in order to successfully support the needs of the people from Sneinton. The structure needed to fit many different purposes such as: a stage, a play centre, a café, an informal meeting space, a learning environment and several other concepts. We combined together the concepts creating a brief for the project which would allow us to focus on meeting the desires of the public.
Taking the brief into consideration we looked towards architects and artists for inspiration such as M.C. Escher and Aldo Van Eyck. We brainstormed and became fixated on two shapes in particular; the hexagon and the triangle. This allowed us to form a basic possible concept that envisioned several small triangles or hexagons that could be combined and separated to meet the different needs the structure needed to meet. An example of this is shown in the CAD simulations below constructed by Somera Bano. At this point we decided to brainstorm further and agreed to meet the following day with more concepts having considered constraints such as transportation and sourcing materials.
